Our September event activities will begin with the lecture by David Basulto the founder and CEO of the most visited architecture website in the world “ArchDaily”.
Architect David Basulto graduated from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 2006. He is Founder & CEO of ArchDaily, “the world’s most visited architecture website;” published globally in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese. ArchDaily’s mission is “to improve the quality of life of the 3 billion people who live in cities in the next 40 years, by providing inspiration, knowledge, and tools to the architects who fill face this challenge.” He has served on juries for several awards, and design competitions in Latin America, North America, Europe, and Asia. He is a member of the Mies Crown Hall America Prize International Advisory Council, housed in Chicago. He is recognized as an Endeavor Entrepreneur from the Endeavor Foundation in New York, and received the National Award of Innovation from the Chilean Government in 2012. Basulto served as curator of the Nordic Countries Pavilion at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale.
The Value of Architecture in the Internet Age
ArchDaily is an evolving project of the Internet – an experiment in archiving, disseminating discourse and sharing content related to architecture and urbanism on a scale that was not possible as little as two decades ago. Since its founding in 2008, it has operated based a single mission: to bring knowledge, inspiration and tools to the people who are, and will be, designing the urban centers, which will accommodate our planet’s (exponentially rising) population. Most importantly, ArchDaily is continually connecting people from around the developed and developing world by building a platform to ensure that important discussions are available to the widest possible global audience.
In this context of the global hyper-urbanization, ArchDaily operates as a start-up, applying a scalable mind-set to its mission. in his presentation, founder and director, David Basulto will talk about how to build an architecture start-up, the meaning of globalization, identity, consciousness, and the necessary redefinition of the architect’s role.
The lecture will be held on the 12th of July at the Kosovo National Library starting from 8.00 PM.

ArchDaily është një projekt online në zhvillim- një eksperiment mbi arkivimin, shpërndarjen e diskursit dhe lajmeve që lidhen me arkitekturë dhe urbanizëm në një shkallë që nuk ishte e mundur dy dekada më parë. Që nga themelimi i faqës në vitin 2008, ka vepruar bazuar në një mision të vetëm: të sjellë njohuri, frymëzim dhe vegla për njerëzit që krijojnë dhe do krijojnë qendrat urbane, të cilat do të akomodojnë popullsinë e planetit tonë që vazhdimisht po rritet. Më e rëndësishmja, ArchDaily vazhdimisht lidh njerëz nga bota e zhvilluar dhe në zhvillim duke ndërtuar një platformë për të siguruar që diskutimet e rëndësishme janë në dispozicion të publikut më të gjerë të mundshëm botëror.

Babau Bureau is a project bureau strongly connected with academic research, based in Venice and led by architects and PhD in Architectural Composition at University Iuav of Venice.
Babau Bureau focus on an holistic approach, refuses the idea of unique style and believe in the necessity of theories based on different contexts and degrees of human dimensions. Among others, the main research issue concern the relation and the limit of private / public spaces, the possibility of a new contextualism for the contemporary city. All works affects different scales as custom furniture design, exhibitions, publishing, restorations, interior design, urban design through private commissions and competitions.
Babau Bureau has been selected for the 2016 Biennale of Venice, won in 2017 the Innovative Schools international competition, premio Ance Catania 2012 and other honorable mentions.
Babau Bureau, as academic research hub, develops investigation projects about production landscapes, heritage and archaeology, theory of composition, representation and reception in architecture.

Ndër të tjera, tema kryesore e hulumtimit ka të bëjë me lidhjen dhe kufirin në mes hapësirave private/publike dhe mundësinë e një kontekstualizmi të ri për qytetin bashkëkohor. Të gjitha punimet ndikojnë në shkallë të ndryshme si në dizajnin e mobiljeve me porosi, ekspozita, botime, restaurime, dizajn të brendshëm, dizajn urban përmes komisioneve dhe garave private.
Babau Bureau është përzgjedhur si pjesëmarrës në Bienalen e vitit 2016 të Venedikut, në 2017 fituan konkursin ndërkombëtar të shkollave inovative, premio Ance Catania 2012 e shumë shpërblime tjera.
Babau Bureau, si qendër hulumtimi akademike, zhvillon projekte rreth peisazheve të prodhimit, trashëgimisë dhe arkeologjisë, teorisë së kompozimit, ekspozimit dhe ripërdorimit në arkitekturë.

Charlotte Malterre-Barthes is an architect, urban designer, and contemporary scholar. She studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Marseille, at TU Vienna, and ETH Zurich. After interning at Coop Himmelb(l)au, she obtained in 2003 her diploma magna cum laudewith ‘a Women Social Centre in Baghdad’, tackling political and social involvements of architecture. Charlotte collaborated with several offices (Balkrishna Doshi at Sangath, Rudy Ricciotti, OOS), and in 2009, funded the urban design practice OMNIBUS with Noboru Kawagishi.
Program Director of the Master of Advanced Studies in Urban Design at the Chair of Marc Angélil since 2014, she holds a PhD from ETHZ on ‘Food Territories’ and the effects of the political economy of food on the built environment. A research fellow at Future Cities Laboratory-Singapore in 2012-2013, Charlotte lectured and taught workshops at the AA, the Storefront for Art and Architecture, at Hong-Kong University, among others. Her works were widely published (AD, San Rocco, TRANS, Tracés, etc.) and exhibited (Swiss and Egyptian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, Bi-City Shenzhen Biennale, Rabat Architecture Biennale). With Marc Angélil, she edited the “Housing Cairo: The InformalResponse,” (DAM prizewinner 2016) and “Cairo Desert Cities” (Berlin, Ruby Press). Charlotte is also founding member of the Parity Group, a grassroots association within ETH committed to improving gender equality at the school and in the profession.

Liam Young is a speculative architect who operates in the spaces between design, fiction and futures. He is cofounder of Tomorrows Thoughts Today, an urban futures think tank, exploring the local and global implications of new technologies and Unknown Fields, a nomadic research studio that travels on expeditions to chronicle these emerging conditions as they occur on the ground. He has been acclaimed in both mainstream and architectural media, including the BBC, NBC, Wired, Guardian, Time, and Dazed and Confused, is a BAFTA nominated producer and his work has been collected by institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum and MAAS in Sydney. He has taught internationally at the Architectural Association, Princeton University and now runs the ground breaking MA in Fiction and Entertainment at Sci Arc in Los Angles. Liam’s narrative approach sits between documentary and fiction as he focuses on projects that aim to reveal the invisible connections and systems that make the modern world work. Liam now manages his time between exploring distant landscapes and prototyping the future worlds he extrapolates from them.

Valentin Kunik & Guillaume de Morsier Office
Valentin Kunik & Guillaume de Morsier office is founded in Lausanne, Switzerland in 2010 by Valentin Kunik and Guillaume de Morsier. Gathered around their common interest for a critical and committed architecture. They work at the scale of the territory as well as the scale of the installation. Currently their projects are dealing with the future of living and working, new manufacturing spaces and the design of multifunctional landscape infrastructures. They are developing an architecture that connects people together, and also to physical elements and living organisms. They work primary with soil, water, climate, meteorology and materials that are renewable and bio-sourced. Valentin & Guillaume will also be part of the Parallel Sprawl workshop.

Antoine (Ton) Wilmering
Keeping it Modern, Getty Foundation
Antoine Wilmering is a senior program officer at the Getty Foundation and oversees grant initiatives related to the conservation of cultural heritage around the world. He manages Keeping It Modern, an international grant initiative that continues the Getty Foundation’s deep commitment to architectural conservation with a focus on significant buildings of the twentieth century. Wilmering was trained as a conservator of wooden objects in the Netherlands and in the UK, and prior to joining the Getty in 2004, he taught conservation at the Graduate Institute of Conservation of Cultural Relics at the Tainan National University of the Arts in Taiwan (2000–2004) and was a conservator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (1987–2000). His publications include Italian Renaissance Intarsia and the Conservation of the Gubbio Studiolo (1999), and he was awarded a Getty Conservation Institute guest scholarship in 2003.

Ivan Kucinais a professor at Dessau International School of Architecture, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. He worked at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade from 1996 to 2014.. He was a guest professor at the Parsons New School for Design, New York, Polis University, Tirana, KTH Stockholm, GUTech, Muscat, Oman.
His academic research focuses on sustainable architecture and urban development concepts based on informal building strategies and collaborative practices. He is a practicing architect and used to run an interdisciplinary architectural and design practice in Belgrade with projects that range from urban design and buildings to exhibition design and furniture.
In 2006, he co-founded the Belgrade International Architecture Week. From 2012 to 2015 he was program director of the Urban Transformations program at Mikser Festival, Belgrade. In 2012 he founded School of Urban Practices.

Rainer studied Furniture Design at the Denmarks Design Skole Copenhagen, Product Design at the University of Arts Berlin and completed his degree in Industrial Design (Prof. Paolo Piva) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Rainer Mutsch then worked as senior designer for Werner Aisslinger in Berlin for several years before opening his own design studio with a focus on product design in Vienna in 2008. Deeply committed to creating design with purpose and always having his notepad and a pen at hand, his open-minded approach allows Rainer Mutsch to invite an element of play into his work. Living with his objects for a while is an important part of the design process for Rainer Mutsch, which allows him to investigate into unlocking the full potential of a design piece.

We love to work intensively with new material- and manufacturing technologies and together we develop products that are elegant, precise, yet simple and above all are meant to meet human needs. Their work explore how architecture as discipline reacts in the intersection with politics, technology, economy and social issues. Their research and theoretical work is linked to leading publications in architectural discourse and their writing appears in Open Source Architecture(Thames and Hudson, 2015), The Form of Form(Lars Muller, 2016), Together! Born in 1976 in Barcelona, Ivan Blasi studied architecture at the Barcelona Architecture School (ETSAB-UPC) from where he graduated in 2002. The passion for a profession that deals with many of society’s critical issues brought him to explore how it blends with politics, technology, economy and above all people. Opposed to individualism, Ivan Blasi have simultaneously collaborated with different architecture offices and institutions, as a team member and also leading different projects. He has had the opportunity to work for Docomomo International and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe and to collaborate with other institutions all over the world. These collaborations made him aware of the importance of architecture dissemination.
Different tools and formats have allowed the teams Ivan Blasi have participated in to reach different audiences and receive different feedback: teaching architecture students; leading the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award and the Young Talent Architecture Award; lecturing in architecture and cultural-based centres; curating interventions at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion; codirecting interviews and short films; screenwriting a documentary and coordinating different events such as cinema cycles, dance and music concerts or lectures and events such as the Barcelona Architecture Week.
Ivan aims to understand that architecture is an activity of general interest at the service of society and it is necessary to promote it. Together with social, ecological, and economic aspects, there is also the emotional and aesthetic dimension. The creation, appropriation, and use of the built environment become social processes that are based on a broad understanding about qualitative values and objectives of architecture that need to be further developed.

I lindur në vitin 1976 në Barcelonë, Ivan Blasi ka studiuar në fushën e arkitekturës në Barcelona Architecture School (ETSAB-UPC) ku diplomoi në vitin 2002. Në kundërshtim me individualizmin, Ivan Blasi ka bashkëpunuar me zyre dhe institucione arkitekturore të ndryshme, si një anëtar i ekipit dhe gjithashtu duke udhëhequr projekte të ndryshme, ndër këtyre praktikave ka punuar edhe me Docomomo International dhe Fundació Mies van der Rohe ku nëpërmjet tyre pati mundësi të bashkëpunte me institucione të tjera anembanë botës.
Mjetet dhe formatet e ndryshme i mundësuan Blasit që të arrijë audienca të ndryshme: ligjeratat për studentët e arkitekturës; udhëheqja e European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award dhe the Young Talent Architecture Award; ligjerata në qendra arkitekturore dhe kulturore; ndërhyrje kuruese në pavijonin Mies van der Rohe; intervista dhe filma të shkurtër; skenar për dokumentar si dhe koordinimi i ngjarjeve të ndryshme në fushat e filmit, vallzimit dhe koncerteve muzikore ose ligjerata në ngjarje të tilla si Barcelona Architecture Week.
Qëllimi kryesor i Blasit është të kuptoj se arkitektura është një aktivitet i interesit të përgjithshëm në shërbim të shoqërisë dhe është e domosdoshme për ta promovuar atë. Bashk me aspektet sociale, ekologjike dhe ekonomike, ka edhe dimensionin emocionale dhe estetike. Krijimi, përvetësimi dhe përdorimi i mjedisit të ndërtuar bëhen procese sociale që bazohen në një kuptim të gjerë mbi vlerat cilësore dhe objektivat e arkitekturës që duhet të zhvillohen më tej.
