Born in 1964 in Kosovo, Gezim studied architecture in Prishtina and Geneva University where he graduated in 1993. Gezim is one of the few architects of the post war Kosovo that have managed to overcome the difficult situation of the Kosovo environment. The cornerstone of his aesthetic include simplicity of form, thoughtful space planning and a desire to reveal the nature of the material, all of which contrast with an environment that often defaults to chaos and banality.
Gezim currently heads his architecture studio based in Geneva PHARC and is the Curator to the Kosovo’s Pavilion at this years Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale.

Among his projects and buildings the Laboratories of the Department of Molecular Biology of University of Camerino, the addition to the Archeologic Museum of Ascoli Piceno and a number of residental and office buildings in Italy.
Among other projects PC is currently working as the senior curator of MAXXI Architettura – the first national museum of architecture in Rome.

After graduating in 1986 from the MSU Faculty of Architecture in Istanbul; he worked with Metcalf & Associates in Washington D.C. between 1986-87. From there, between 1987-2004 he worked as an associate designer with Şaziment and Neşet Arolat and later founded Emre Arolat Architects (EAA) with Gonca Paşolar in 2004. His projects with EAA have won many national and international awards, including the 2005 Mies van der Rohe Award for European Architecture (Highly Commended), in 2006 the AR Awards for Emerging Architecture (Highly Commended), in 2010 the Cityscape Dubai Awards, in 2011 the MIPIM AR Future Projects Awards, in 2011 the Green Good Design Awards and the WAF (World Architecture Festival) Awards: in 2012 for Future Projects-Education Category with AGU City Campus and in 2013 the Completed Buildings-Religion Buildings Category with the Sancaklar Mosque. He also received the National Architecture Awards, in the category of “Design” and “Building” in 1992, 2002, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2014, the “Award of New Prospects in Architecture” in 2000. He has also won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2010 with the Ipekyol Textile Factory Building.
He has lectured and taught at many architectural schools and has been a jury member for several architectural design competitions both in Turkey and internationally. He has participated at various professional national and international conferences and seminars. His articles have been widely published in professional design medias. “Nazaran…/With regard to…”, “An/Moment” and ”Fabrika/The Factory” exhibitions curated by EAA has provided a widely spread audience about the work of the office. He has contributed to the EAA’s books, Dalaman Airport, Emre Arolat: Buildings / Projects 1998-2005, and ” …with regard to”. In 2013 the monograph ‘’EAA Emre Eolat Architects-Context & Plurality’’ was published by Rizzoli NY. In 2012, Arolat was one of the two curators of the I. İstanbul Design Biennial.

Urban-Think Tank – D-ARCH, ETH Zurich
is an interdisciplinary design practice dedicated to high-level research and design on a variety of subjects, concerned with contemporary architecture and urbanism. The philosophy of U-TT is to deliver innovative yet practical solutions through the combined skills of architects, civil engineers, environmental planners, landscape architects, and communication specialists. In 1993, Alfredo Brillembourg founded U-TT in Caracas, Venezuela, and in 1998, Hubert Klumpner joined as co-director. Since 2007, Brillembourg and Klumpner have taught at Columbia University, where they founded the Sustainable Living Urban Model Laboratory (S.L.U.M. Lab), and since 2010, they hold the Chair for Architecture and Urban Design at the Swiss Institute of Technology, ETH in Zurich. The work concerns both theoretical and practical applications within architecture and urban planning. Working in global contexts by creating bridges between first world industry and third world, informal urban areas, they focus on the education and development of a new generation of professionals, who will transform cities in the 21st century. They have been awarded the 2010 “Ralph Erskine Award” from the Swedish Association of Architects for their innovation in architecture and urban design with regard to social, ecological and aesthetic aspects, the 2011“Global Silver Holcim Award” for Sustainable Construction and the 2012 “Golden Lion” at the 13th Venice Biennial.
Haris Piplas, Dipl. Eng. M.Sc. Urban Design
Born in Sarajevo in 1984, he has studied and graduated at the University of Sarajevo receiving the Best student Award and University Charter followed by a M.Sc. in Urban Design at the Technical University of Berlin. His memberships and activities, among others, include the Editor position of the Journal of the “International Federation for Landscape Architecture – Europe”, Young Leaders Committee position at the “Urban Land Institute” Germany, the Steering Committee position in Network “MediverCities” initiated by the UN SCBD. He has collected practical experience in Denmark, Germany and Bosnia as well as conducted academic research at ETH Zurich and Politecnico di Milano. He has been guest speaker and visitor at several institutions and events including Harvard, Prince of Wales Foundation for Building Community, MIT, TU Wien, Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau, UNECE, European Forum Alpbach and at academic platforms including AESOP (Association of European Schools for Planning), ECLAS (European Council of Landscape Architecture Schools) etc. Since 2011 he is affiliated with the Brillembourg&Klumpner Urban-Think-Tank Chair of Architecture and Urban Design at ETH Zurich’s D-ARCH where he figures as a Researcher and coordinates of the “Urban Design I/II: Urban Stories” Lecture Series.
Daniel Schwartz
Daniel Schwartz (b. 1987, Nairobi) is a filmmaker, photographer, and researcher. He studied Urban Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania and Radio Journalism at the University of Botswana. His photography and writing have appeared in numerous publications such as The Guardian and New York Times, and his films have screened and been broadcasted internationally. He currently works as associate director of Urban-Think Tank Films, the media arm of the international design firm Urban-Think Tank, and their Chair at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich)
Saimir Kristo
Saimir Kristo [1987] is an architect and an urban designer and currently lecturer and curricula manager of POLIS University in Tirana, Albania. In his professional experience he also collaborated in urban participatory processes, as a coordinator in urban planning projects for various cities in Albania. His scientific research is based on the paradigm of information technology in architecture and at the same time he is editor at Forum A+P, Scientific Journal for Architecture and Urban Planning and member of the editorial board of MAD Magazine. Currently he is curator of TAW – Tirana Architecture Week – [En]Visioning Future Cities.
Arch Ledian Bregasi
Ledian Bregasi is an Albanian architect who graduated in Architecture at “La Sapienza” University of Rome, where he is currently developing his PhD studies in Architecture Theory and Design. At the moment he is lecturing in the Design Studio II and Information Architecture course at POLIS University in Tirana. The emergence of behavioral patterns and the role of self-regulation in complex systems, are the main focus of his research interests.
His professional experience includes collaborations with the local administrations in Tirana and with architecture firms in Italy and Albania. At present he works as an architect at Metropolis Architecture and Planning studio in Tirana. From 2012 he is head of AUA, Albanian Union of Architects and Urban Planners.
Born in 1937 Athens is a Greek architect and teacher. He studied architecture at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, London, completing his studies in 1961. From 1961 to 1971 he worked for architects Douglas Stephen and Partners, London, while also (from 1963) teaching at the Architectural Association under Hermann Senkowsky. Zenghelis became a prominent teacher at the school for introducing more radical avant-gardism into the curriculum. From 1971 to 1975 Zenghelis collaborated with various architects in London, Paris and New York: Georges Candilis, Michael Carapetian, Aristeides Romanos, Rem Koolhaas, O.M. Ungers and Peter Eisenman.
Zenghelis came to critical attention with the work of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), which he founded together with his wife Zoe Zenghelis and husband-and-wife Rem Koolhaas (Zenghelis’ former student) and Madelon Vriesendorp. From 1980 to 1987 Zenghelis was partner in charge of OMA London, and from 1982 to 1987 OMA Athens. Of the OMA works, Zenghelis was a central influence in the early works: Extension of the Dutch Houses of Parliament, The Hague, 1978; Lutzowstrasse, IBA Berlin, 1981; Parc de la Villette, Paris, 1982; Checkpoint Charlie housing, IBA Berlin, 1990. Several of the paintings that Elia Zenghelis made with Zoe Zenghelis to illustrate the OMA projects – such as Hotel Sphinx (1975), and Sixteen Villas on the Island of Antiparos, Greece (1981) – are now included in the Art and Design collection of the MOMA in New York.

She has worked on a number of large scale site specific projects including Coney Island, Hunters Point South, Hudson Yards, Hudson Square, Lower Concourse, and North Shore, as well as various city wide efforts that look to improve the health and sustainability of New York’s build fabric. She has contributed to the New York City agency publications; Active Design: Shaping the Sidewalk Experience (2013), Vision 2020: New York City Comprehensive Waterfront Plan (2011), Working West Shore 2030: Creating Jobs, Improving Infrastructure and managing Growth (2011), Active Design Guidelines (2010), USGBC NYC Green Codes Task Force Report (2010) and the NYCDOT Street Design Manual (2009). Dijana Vučinić is a practicing architect. She recently founded DVARP (www.dvarp.me), an interdisciplinary architectural and design practice with projects that range from urban design and residential buildings to stage design. Her work is based on research about the urban conditions of developing tourism areas on the coast and mountains of Montenegro. DVARP focuses on creating innovative and integral architectural design. In their work DVARP introduces structures and spaces that reveal complex process of final answer and critical thinking.
She is also the founder of the Kotor Architectural Prison Summer School (www.kotorapss.me) a platform in Kotor, Montenegro, for further research and development of urban structures. Since 2011, APSS has been investigating ways to redefine the relationship between the architectural and the urban scales in Montenegrin coastal cities and to improve the urban context through new approaches to urban planning and design.
Vučinić is a Commissioner and Co-curator of “Treasures in disguise” – Montenegro pavilion at 14th Venice Biennale of Architecture (http://treasures-in-disguise.net). The Montenegro Pavilion at the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale presents four examples of late-modernist architecture that were built in Montenegro between 1960 and 1986. When these buildings were first constructed, they radiated their builders’ enthusiasm and confidence about the new society they were building.
She writes for several periodicals and scholarly publications in Montenegro and is also a co-founder and member of the Urbanism and Architecture Association of Montenegro.

The Swiss Touch in Landscape Architecture An exhibition by PRO HELVETIA – The Swiss Arts Council, conceived by Laboratoire Chôros, ENAC, EPFL
Pro Helvetia, the Swiss foundation for culture, presents The Swiss Touch in Landscape Architecture through 36 displays, three audio-visual presentations and online documentation. It is a travelling exhibition stored digitally and conceived by Michael Jakob, Chôros, EPFL. The Swiss Touch in Landscape Architecture retraces the work and impact of Swiss landscape architects.
Landscape architecture continually transforms the environment and the way we approach it. This modern discipline, which began around 1800, quickly evolved throughout the twentieth- century. It is now undergoing an even more spectacular rise as it takes a prominent place within society and becomes established as an important concern.
Landscape architecture is now focused on the development of public spaces, in urban and peri-urban projects. It concerns the management of green spaces within the city and the creation of parks and gardens. It also deals with the integration of wasteland and agricultural terrain into the landscape.
During the twentieth century and beyond, Switzerland played an essential role in the evolution of landscape architecture. Leading projects by Swiss landscape architects can be found both in Switzerland and the rest of the world. Landscape architects play a central role among those professions, which create present and future living spaces, and yet that role is still largely unknown to the general public.
The projects of Swiss landscape architects privilege formal beauty, but also place emphasis on ecological context. The need to respect both the spirit of a place and its history yields designs, which combine, in equal measure, an extreme sense of rigor with elegance.
The present exhibition hints at the richness, diversity and complexity of this fascinating field. The first section deals with theory and history and provides a conceptual framework for the exhibition. The visitor is invited to discover the influence of the history of gardens and the important role played by the pioneers of Swiss landscape architecture. The visitor will also see the crucial function of national exhibitions, including the more recent Lausanne Jardins – the successful international festival of urban garden design. The second section – the core of The Swiss Touch in Landscape Architecture, provides a survey of the most significant landscape architecture studios. The last section, “nouvelle vague”, presents the works of a new generation of landscape architects.

Është një ekspozitë udhëtuese digjitale, e konceptuar nga Michael Jakob, Chôros, EPFL. The Swiss Touch in Landscape Architecture rikualifikon punën dhe ndikimin e arkitektëve të peizazhit zviceran.
Arkitektura e peizazhit vazhdimisht transformon mjedisin dhe mënyrën se si i qasemi asaj. Kjo disiplinë moderne, e cila filloi rreth vitit 1800, evoluoi shpejt në të gjithë shekullin e njëzetë. Tani po kalon një rritje edhe më spektakolare pasi merr një vend të shquar brenda shoqërisë dhe krijohet si një shqetësim i rëndësishëm.
Arkitektura e peisazhit tani është e fokusuar në zhvillimin e hapësirave publike, në projektet urbane dhe periferike. Ka të bëjë me menaxhimin e hapësirave të gjelbra brenda qytetit si dhe krijimin e parqeve dhe kopshteve. Arkitektura e peisazhit gjithashtu merret me integrimin e djerrinës dhe terrenit bujqësor në peisazhin.
Gjatë shekullit të njëzetë dhe më gjerë, Zvicra luajti një rol thelbësor në evolucionin e arkitekturës së peizazhit. Projektet drejtuese nga arkitektë të peizazhit zviceranë mund të gjenden në Zvicër si dhe në pjesën tjetër të botës. Arkitektët e peizazhit luajnë një rol qendror mes atyre profesioneve, të cilat krijojnë hapësira të tanishme dhe të ardhshme, megjithatë ky rol ende mbetet i panjohur për publikun e gjerë.
Projektet e arkitektëve të peizazhit zviceranë e privilegjojnë bukurinë formale, por gjithashtu e vënë theksin në kontekstin ekologjik. Nevoja për të respektuar shpirtin e një vendi edhe vet historia e saj jep ide, të cilat kombinojnë, masën e barabartë, ndjenjën ekstreme me elegancën.
Ekspozita e tanishme lë të kuptohet në pasurinë, diversitetin dhe kompleksitetin e kësaj fushe interesante. Pjesa e parë merret me teorinë dhe historinë dhe ofron një kornizë konceptuale për ekspozitën. Vizitori është i ftuar për të zbuluar ndikimin e historisë së kopshteve dhe rolin e rëndësishëm të pionierëve të arkitekturës së peizazhit zviceran. Vizitori do të shohë gjithashtu funksionin vendimtar të ekspozitave kombëtare, duke përfshirë edhe Lausanne Jardins – festivali i suksesshëm ndërkombëtar i dizajnit të kopshtit urban. Seksioni i dytë – thelbi i “Swiss Touch” në arkitekturën e peizazhit, ofron një studim të studiove më të rëndësishme të arkitekturës së peizazhit. Seksioni i fundit, “nouvelle vague”, paraqet veprat e një brezi të ri të arkitektëve të peizazhit.

Ideas for Prishtina
Haven’t you all, at least once, imagined a different or better city of Prishtina? Haven’t you ever thought of any tiny or big change that would ease and improve the way we use and experience our city? If you were given the power to change Prishtina, what would you do to make it safer, more beautiful, usable, livable and user-friendly? Well, here you have the chance to share your ideas and turn the city around! Someday, the Municipality of Prishtina might realize them!
Kosovo Architecture Foundation (KAF) and the Municipality of Prishtina are organizing this Design Contest “Ideas for Prishtina”, aiming to collect citizens’ proposals on shaping their living environments. Since the city of Prishtina is experiencing constant transformations, we want to focus on generating community-based designs and visions on improving or transforming public spaces and their neighborhoods. These proposals could vary from sidewalks, crossroads, city lights, billboards, building facades, storefronts, rooftops, passages, tunnels, parks and other green areas, fountains, squares, markets, information points, pavilions, new public buildings, or even utopic urban solutions.
Everyone, either being a devoted residents or just visitors in Prishtina, of any age, nationality, or professional background, are invited to share their ideas. You can participate in this Design Contest either individually or in groups with your friends, colleagues, neighbors, or family members. The scope of your proposed interventions may vary from small to utopic ones. You are totally free to express yourselves either by architectural and urban designs, or art works, photos, videos, texts, etc. All you need to do in your designs is specify the exact location of your proposed intervention, and explain how your idea would improve the city and help the citizens.
The Municipality of Prishtina will be awarding the best proposal will the Rexhep Luci Award that also includes a prize in money (1000 euros), while the most feasible projects might be realized by the Municipality.

COMPETITION TERMS & CONDITIONS
1. Competition Promoters & Organizers
“Ideas for Prishtina” is organized by the Kosovo Architecture Foundation (KAF) and the Municipality of Prishina on behalf of Prishtina Architecture Week (PAW).
2. Aim of competition
The main idea for this competition is to stimulate the citizens on expressing their wishes and ideas towards the improvement of the city of Prishtina. It is an open and ideas only competition. The proposed ideas will be exhibited during PAW, and later will remain property of the Municipality of Prishtina for possible further developments.
3. Eligibility
This design contest is open for anyone, local of foreigner, student or professional, interested on improving the quality of Prishtina. Entrants might apply individually or in mixed groups.

5. Judging Panel & Process
The evaluation and selection of best design proposals will be conducted by a jury composed of national and international members. The jury is composed of: Asa Bruno, London; Skye Duncan, New York; Pippo Ciorra, Rome, Liburn Alia, Prishtina; Bekim Ramku, Prishtina. The judging process will take place beginning of September, and the winners’ announcement will be on 11th of September 2014.
6. Awards
All the proposals will be published in a catalog and exhibited by KAF. There will be given award certificates for the best 10 proposals, and the first prize will receive a prize in money (1000 euros). The most feasible proposals may later be realized by the Municipality of Prishtina.
7. Copyright
The intellectual property rights will remain to the competition participants. KAF does not hold responsibility for any plagiarism. KAF and the Municipality of Prishtina reserve the right to keep the entries for their publication, exhibition and other marketing activities, at no further compensation. If any of these designs will be realized by Municipality of Prishtina, there is no need to ask for further permission. In case any entry will be implemented and it is needed KAF and the Municipality of Prishtina hold the right to technically modify the entries.

A nuk iu ka shkuar ndërmend ndonjë ndryshim i vogël apo i madh, i cili do ta lehtësonte dhe përmirësonte mënyrën se si ne e përdorim dhe e shfrytëzojmë qytetin tonë? Sikur të kishit fuqi për ta ndryshuar Prishtinën, çka do të bënit për ta bërë atë më të gjelbër, më të sigurt, më të gjallë, më të bukur dhe më interesante? Eh atëherë, ja ku e keni mundësinë të ndani idetë tuaja dhe ta gjallëroni qytetin! Një ditë, Komuna e Prishtinës mund ti jetësojë ato njëmend!
Kosovo Architecture Foundation (KAF) dhe Komuna e Prishtinës janë duke organizuar këtë konkurs dizajni “Ide për Prishtinën”, me qëllim të grumbullimit të propozimeve të qytetarëve për formësimin e ambienteve ku jetojnë. Meqë qyteti i Prishtinës është duke përjetuar transformime të vazhdueshme, ne dëshirojmë të përqendrohemi në gjenerimin e dizajneve dhe vizioneve nga komuniteti për përmirësimin ose transformimin e hapësirave publike dhe lagjeve të tyre. Këto propozime mund të variojnë nga trotuaret, udhëkryqet, mjetet ndriçuese, reklamat, pasazhet, tunelet, shatërvanët, sheshet, tregjet, parqet dhe hapësirat tjera të gjelbra, fasadat e kulmet e ndërtesave, përdheset e dyqaneve, pikat informuese, pavijonet, ndërtesat e reja publike, e deri në zgjidhje utopike.
Çdokush, qofshin banorë besnik apo vetëm vizitorë të Prishtinës, të çfarëdo moshe, nacionaliteti, apo prapavije profesionale, janë të ftuar të ndajnë idetë e tyre. Ju mund të merrni pjesë në konkurs individualisht ose në grupe me shokët, kolegët, fqinjët apo familjarët tuaj. Intervenimet tuaja të propozuara mund të variojnë nga ato më të voglat e deri në ato më utopike. Ju jeni të lirë të paraqitni idetë tuaja qoftë me dizajne arkitekturale apo urbane, ose edhe me vepra artistike, fotografi, tekste etj. Kejt cka duhet të bëni në dizajnin tuaj është taspecifikoni lokacionin e propozimit tuaj dhe shpjegoni se si ideja juaj do përmirsonte qytetin dhe ndihmoj qytetarët.
Propozimi më i mirë do të shpërblehet me çmimin e parë Rexhep Luci dhe do pranoj shperblim financiar (1000 euro), ndërsa projektet e zbatueshme do mund të realizohen nga Komuna e Prishtinës.

TERMAT DHE KUSHTET E KONKURSIT
1. Organizatorët dhe përkrahësit e konkursit
“Ide për Prishtinën” organizohet nga Kosovo Architecture Foundation (KAF) dhe Komuna e Prishtinës gjatë Javës së Arkitekturës në Prishtinë (PAW).
2. Qëllimi i konkursit
Qëllimi i konkursit është stimulimi i qytetarëve në shprehjen e dëshirave dhe ideve të tyre për përmirësimin e qytetit të Prishtinës. Ky konkurs është i hapur dhe vetëm ideor. Idetë e propozuara do të ekspozohen gjatë Javës së Arkitekturës në Prishtinë, ndërsa më vonë do të mbeten pronë e Komunës së Prishtinës për zhvillime të mëtutjeshme.
3. Kushtet për aplikim
Ky konkurs është i hapur për të gjithë, qytetarë lokal apo të huaj, studentë apo profesionistë, të interesuar në përmirësimin e kualitetit të Prishtinës. Aplikuesit mund të marrin pjesë individualisht apo në grupe të përziera.

5. Kërkesat për aplikim
Për këtë konkurs nuk janë specifikuar kërkesa të veçanta për aplikim, andaj jeni të lirë të përdorni çfarëdo teknike të prezantimit për të shprehur idetë e juaja. Në dizajnet tuaja ju duhet të specifikoni lokacionin e saktë të intervenimit të propozuar, si dhe të shpjegoni se si ideja juaj do të përmirësojë qytetin dhe do të ndihmojë qytetarët.
6. Juria dhe procesi i vlerësimit
Vlerësimi dhe përzgjedhja e dizajneve më të mira do të bëhet nga një juri e përbërë nga anëtarë vendorë dhe ndërkombëtarë. Anëtarët e jurisë janë: Asa Bruno, Londer; Skye Duncan, Nju Jork, Pippo Ciorra, Romë, Liburn Alia, Prishtinë, Bekim Ramku, Prishtinë. Vlerësimi do të bëhet në fillim të muajit Shtator ndërsa fituesit do të shpallen më 11 Shtator 2014.
7. Çmimet
Ndër to do të ketë një çmim të parë dhe dhjetë çmime të tjera të dalluara. Dizajni më i mirë do të shpërblehet me një vlerë prej 1000 eurove, ndërsa dhjetë propozimet tjera më të mira do të marrin mirënjohje. Propozimet më të realizueshme mund të zbatohen nga Komuna e Prishtinës. Të gjitha propozimet do të publikohen në katalogun dhe do ekspozohen nga KAF-i.
8. Të drejtat autoriale
Të drejtat e dizajnit konceptual do të mbesin tek pjesëmarrësit e konkursit. Megjithatë, në rast se ndonjë nga propozimet zbatohet, KAF dhe Komuna e Prishtinës kanë të drejtën për modifikimin teknik të tyre pa kërkuar autorizime të tjera nga autorët. Gjithashtu ata mund të publikojnë, ekspozojnë dhe përdorin propozimet për aktivitete të marketingut pa ndonjë kompensim. KAF nuk mban përgjegjësi për asnjë plagjiaturë.
